Successful Accommodations for Children with Special Needs in Child Care Programs

Gateway is excited to be partnering with Coco Kids to host a workshop covering the successful accommodations for children with special needs in child care programs.

The workshop will be divided into two parts:

Part 1 will be presented by CocoKids Inclusion Department.
This part will focus on federal laws and regulations pertaining to the rights of children with disabilities, what does inclusion mean and why teachers need to be competent inclusive teachers, general characteristics of different disabilities, ways and means to identify warning signs that signals the need for adaptations in the environment, techniques and strategies for accommodating children with developmental delays or disabilities, and community resources to support providers and families.

Part 2 will be presented by Elizabeth Peace, BCBA from Gateway Learning Group.
This seminar will cover:
• Rapid-Toilet Training Procedures
• Non-Intensive Procedures
• Bowel Training
• Night-Time Training
Using the toilet independently is an important accomplishment for every child. A little advanced preparation, and knowledge of evidence-based techniques, can go a long way in making the process faster and easier for children with special needs.
